FUN FACT:
- Although it was Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who initiated the plans for the attack against Pearl Harbor, Commander Minoru Genda was the plan's chief architect.
- The Japanese used the codename "Operation Hawaii" for the attack on Pearl Harbor. This later changed to "Operation Z."
- The Japanese specifically chose to attack on a Sunday because they believed Americans would be more relaxed and thus less alert on a weekend.

Summary
On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked a naval base in Hawaii. It was not meant for US to join the war, but to sink the U.S. battle ships and carriers. Japan thought that the U.S.A would be too soft to reclaim that territory. Only 8 battleships were damaged, three were absent during the raid and two were lost. Was almost successful but Japan made some crucial errors like the oil depots were not destroyed, aircraft carriers are absent, and submarine pens were not destroyed as well. The USA declared war on Japan after.
